The Noise Box is somewhere in between a chaotic octave generator, guitar synth, and a broken robot stuck in an angry bee hive. The Noise Box is an envelope sensitive harmonic frequency generator. Frequencies generated are harmonically related to the input, and controlled by the Frequency knob, the Sense knob, and the chaos knob. The Frequency knob sets the resting point of the frequency generator. The Sense knob controls how much the input signal will affect the the range of the frequency generator. The Chaos knob controls the attack. Once turned half way up the Chaos knob loses it's ability to track correctly, and the tones created by the frequency generator become more and more random.

The Voice control alternates between two different voicings of the frequency generator, with varied levels of filtering. Level controls overall volume of the effect. The Noise Box also has an internal noise gate built in that turns the frequency generator off when you are not playing.

Pristine Sound

Waveform Selection
You can modulate your sound with three different waveforms. An asymmetrical tremolo was modelled after a '65 Fender Vibrolux (brown face) to give you the fullest tremolo sound possible. Gain
A problem with most tremolos on the market is that when they're engaged, you hear a noticeable drop in volume. The Empress Trem solves this by having a gain stage on the output. It's able to deliver up to 6dB of gain without adding any distortion to the signal.

ROLAND RE-201 SPACE ECHO

The Roland RE-201, commonly known as the Space Echo, is an audio analog delay effects unit.

A tape echo device records incoming audio to a loop of magnetic tape, then replays the audio over a series of several playback heads before it is erased again by new incoming audio. The tape used in the RE-201 is the standard 1/4" tape of the open-reel variety, but made as one, continuous loop. In the Roland 'RE' range there are no reels of any kind, the tape is transported via a capstan drive. The tape loop is contained in a loose, constantly moving jumble in the tape chamber (also known as the tape tank) under a plastic panel which protects the tape and keeps it from getting tangled.

There are several control dials on the device that alter such aspects as tape speed, repeat pattern (an 11-position rotary switch), one instrument and two microphone inputs, a single analog backlit VU meter for all three inputs, wet/dry mix for both echo and reverb, and intensity (number of repeats; in a sense, it actually reduces how much the erase/record head erases the tape), that can be adjusted to a user's liking; and bass/treble controls to EQ the sound, as well as dry and effected "Echo" output jacks with a switch for output setting (-10, -20, -35db levels.)

Used as a delay / echo, the Roland RE-201 is said to produce an unpredictable delay that is warm and gritty sounding. It is also capable of producing a large variety of its own sound effects, even without an input signal (by turning the intensity control to maximum and allowing the unit to self-regenerate, or self-oscillate, while manipulating the tape speed and other controls).

The Roland RE-201 was used by musicians like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne).

Despite its age, the Roland RE-201 is widely sought after, and still used by many bands to this day, notably in the experimental work of Radiohead, and the rockabilly stylings of Brian Setzer, the latter using one recently to get the slapback sound sought after for rockabilly and such styles of music.

This sadly discontinued stomper is truly one of the greats and deserves a re-issue! Despite being be out of production for a number of years, this unit has always enjoyed a rabid and enthusiastic following. Typical gain and output knobs handle distortion amounts while a treble, bass, and a contour knob take care of tonal duties. The Shredmaster was alway billed as a Marshall in a box, and while this is true at some settings, the scope and range of this pedal goes far beyond than that. Mellow settings recall the glory days of Bluesbreaker-era Clapton while extreme setting pull off Radiohead-like crunch. Split the difference and you'll hear shades of everything from singing sustain of Gary Moore to the valvey bite of My Bloody Valentine. The housing is thick and sturdy and the knobs are nice and tacky. We seen a few sticky switches on a few of these old Marshalls but we always brought them back to life with a little contact cleaner.

The NF-1 is a noise eliminator like the later NS-2. Adjust the Sens knob to the threshold level where you want the pedal to cut off and adjust the Decay knob to how fast you want the sound to disappear. It's not going to get much easier than that. The NF-1 should by normal conventions be called NG-1, but NG could be interpreted as No Good so NF-1 for Noise Filter was chosen instead.

The NF-1 Noise Gate cuts the annoying noise and hum that can be generated when pausing during a performance. The NF-1 is equipped with a sensitivity control for adjusting the gating threshold in accordance to the ratio of noise to signal. A Decay control is also included for setting the length of decay for each note before the gate cuts in, while a wide 100msec to 1.6 second decay time control range allows the NF-1to be used with virtually any musical instrument from guitars to keyboards. Ideal for eliminating the internal noise generated by musical instruments and other electrical or electronic equipments and the hum picked up by wires, the NF-1 can also be effectively used to shut out external noise from lighting fixtures, etc.
